On Tuesday, May 10, our REAL students were invited by Judge Barry Tatum to observe teen court. Project REAL is founded on intervention / prevention skills and this was a great opportunity for our students to see “live” some of the consequences of bad choices. Here are a few comments from the students Walter J. Baird regarding this outing:
…”Surprised that they would still “do it” (wrong choices) even though they know they are not supposed to.
…”A lot of community service hours were given to those who got in trouble.”
…”I liked the way the Judge talked with us. He told us how the process works and what he does to help the kids.”
…”When I think of court, I would think about what I see on t.v. This was a lot different!”
…”One kid was led back to jail!”
…”These were kids from school that we will be going to!”
…”Impacts you more when you see it in person.”
